Match Reports Division Two Week commencing 25 October 2010 Ryton Park Bees 8, DTH Redlands Joggers 2 The Bees have flown back to the top of Division Two following this comprehensive 8-2 victory over third placed Redlands Joggers in a re-arranged fixture. Joe Else and Matthew Lemon starred for the winners with both players attaining hard earned trebles. Brian Allan then defeated James Maher before partnering Lemon to a doubles win to secure maximum points for his team. Peter Cowburn and Dennis Learad won one each in reply for the Joggers, with Learad having to work hard to beat Allen 11-9 in the deciding fifth set. Manton Tigers 6, Manton Sports 4 The Tigers won the bragging rights in this Manton derby thanks to a tremendous hat-trick from CWS and Rockware veteran Bill Bateman. Paul Allison won a further two before Steve Beeston defeated Keith Smith in a typical five-setter. The Sports were always in with a shout of a share of the points but despite a Russell Kemp double and one from John Lowde they fell just one short after adding the doubles. The Tigers win see's them head Division Two having taken over from the Bees who didn't have a game this week. Ryton Park Eagles 7, DTH Redlands Academicals 3 The Eagle has landed says the old adage and this win over the struggling Accies gives them hope for the remainder of the season. A first treble for Richard Robinson certainly helped and with a further two each coming fron Joanne Drew and Thomas Moore, victory was complete. Terry Emmerson scored twice for the Redlands outfit before winning the doubles also with his partner Neil Houghton. The match could have gone either way in a close fought affair with half the games being decided in the fifth and final set. Carlton Rovers 3, DTH Redlands Academicals 7 Carlton Rovers replace the Accies at the foot of the Division Two table as they lost out 7-3 in this basement battle. It is a dangerous situation for the Carlton outfit who were only promoted from the Third Division last season. Both Grant Bannister and Terry Emmerson provided the ammunition for the winners with both players netting trebles. Jim Kenny added a singles win over John McClellan before Carlton fought back through Alan Wilson and Alan Keeling who won one each in reply before teaming up to win the doubles against Kenny and Emmerson also.
Week commencing 18 October 2010 DTH Redlands Academicals 2, Ryton Park Bees 8 The Bees are flying once more as they move two points clear at the top of the division after gaining an 8-2 win over the Accies. A Brian Allen Allen soon had the leaders buzzing and with a further two each from Joe Selse and Matthew Lemon (who lost his 100% record in this game), the points were virtually won. Lemon and Allen rounded off the proceedings with a doubles win over Jim Kenny and Terry Emmerson, while Emmerson enjoyed wins over Lemon (his first defeat of the season) and Bees captain Joe Else. DTH Redlands Joggers 3, Manton Tigers 7 The Tigers go joint top following this excellent 7-3 victory over third placed Joggers. They can thank both Paul Allison and Dave Bowns for making this a somewhat comfortable win as they each recorded brilliant trebles. Bowns wrapped up the points for the Tigers when he partnered Steve Beeston to a fine doubles win. It was one each for Peter Cowburn, James Maher and Keith Bloomfield in reply. Manton Sports 6, Ryton Park Eagles 4 The Sports edged this win after another excellent performance from Russell Kemp who proved to be the main difference between the two teams after registering a fine maximum. Keith Smith added a brace with Phil Fisher chipping in with a vital win over Bobby Shahidi to claim the points for his side. In reply Joanne Drew netted twice with Thomas Moore adding a solo win over Fisher before partnering Drew to win the doubles, but it wasn't quite enough for a share of the spoils.
Week Commencing 11 October 2010 Manton Sports 7, DTH Redlands Joggers 3 The Sports are off the bottom following this excellent 7-3 win over second placed Joggers. A Russell Kemp treble proved to be the main difference between the two teams and with a further two victories from Keith Smith plus one from Phil Fisher the points were assured. Fisher finally teamed up with Smith to take the doubles over James Maher and Callum Shutt. Meanwhile one each from Dennis Learad, Shutt and Maher was all the Joggers could record as they ran out of steam. Ryton Park Eagles 5, Carlton Rovers 5 Points were shared in this fixture as both teams struggle to make an impact in Division Two. With four teams now on just three points, it will be interesting to see how the season will develop. Alan Wilson starred for the Rovers with a well taken treble, although Thomas Moore ran him close before narrowly going down to the Carlton based player 11-7, 7-11, 7-11, 16-14, 10-12. Alan Keeling bagged a brace thanks to a nail-biting 12-10 win in the fifth, again against the unfortunate Moore to secure a share of the spoils. Mike Cohen netted twice for the Eagles with a further one each coming from Richard Robinson and Moore, before Moore and Cohen defeated John McClellan and Wilson in the doubles to give the Ryton outfit a valuable point. Manton Tigers 6, DTH Redlands Academicals 4 The Tigers overcame the Accies by the narrowest of margins thanks to a fine treble from their long standing servant Paul Allison who also went on to remain undefeated throughout after partnering Steve Beeston to an excellent doubles win over Neil Houghton and Terry Emmerson. Beeston and Phil Hall won one each against Lee Bohan who was playing up from Division Three to conclude the victory. The Accies battled bravely for a point with Houghton and Emmerson winning two each, but they couldn't conjure up another for a share of the spoils.
Week Commencing 4 October 2010 Carlton Rovers 2, Ryton Park Bees 8 Division Two leaders, the Bees, were stung into action against the Rovers and duly completed a comfortable 8-2 victory despite a brace from Alan Wilson who defeated Joe Else 12-10 in the fourth and new signing Steve Hardy 12-10 in the fifth. The Bees then took control with latest signing Stan Zygadlo notching three wins to his credit, while Hardy and Else won a further two each to put the Bees in the driving seat. They completed their victory when Zygadlo and Hardy joined together to win the doubles over John McClellan and Wilson in straight sets. DTH Redlands Academicals 5, Manton Sports 5 In a keenly fought game, honours were shared in the end with the Accies and Sports registering their first point of the season in a 5-5 draw. The match was played in a good atmosphere and in the right spirit. Jim Kenny netted twice for the home side while Terry Emmerson bagged a further two prior to partnering Kenny to a fine doubles win for a share of the spoils. Manton were always in the contest with Russell Kemp and Keith Smith adding two each for their side but John Lowde's solo win over Neil Houghton saw them get their point across.
Week Commencing 27 September 2010 Manton Tigers 6, Carlton Rovers 4 The Tigers move into third place in the division following this narrow 6-4 win over last season's promoted Division Three Champions. Dave Bowns and Bill Bateman won two each for the Tigers, while Phil Hall chipped in with one and Bateman and Bowns won the doubles in straight sets over Alan Keeling and Alan Wilson to ensure the victory. The Rovers responded through a magnificent treble from Alan Wilson but only Keeling could add to his score as his team slipped to defeat. Ryton Park Eagles 1, Ryton Park Bees 9 The Bees head Division Two following this convincing win over their club rivals. Only Joe Else missed out on the maximum having won two of his three, but both Matthew Lemon and Brian Allen bagged hat-tricks before pairing up to win the doubles in straight sets over Bobby Shahidi and Thomas Moore. Moore was the only winner for the Eagles, having defeated Else 13-11 in the deciding fifth set. DTH Redlands Joggers 6, DTH Redlands Academicals 4 The Joggers edged a narrow 6-4 win over their club colleagues thanks to a Peter Cowburn double and a brace from captain Dennis Learad. James Maher added a solo win over Andy Elam before the Joggers wrapped up the points with an 11-9 victory in the fifth against Grant Bannister and Terry Emmerson. Bannister hit a fine treble for the Accies, but only Emmerson could add to his score, but it wasn't quite enough to share the points.
Week Commencing 20 September 2010 Ryton Park Bees 5, Manton Tigers 5 The Bees continue to impress this season having failed by a solitary point to win promotion last season. Joe Else and Brian Allen won two each in this close encounter with Allen teaming up with his son Robert to win the doubles and ensure the points were shared. Paul Allison and Dave Bowns hit doubles in reply, with Steve Beeston netting a 5-set win over Robert Allen to save the Tigers from defeat. Carlton Rovers 6, Manton Sports 4 An Alan Wilson hat-trick soon had the Rovers barking up the right tree and with further wins from Keith Swift who overcame the challenge of Phil Fisher and Dave Lee, it was left to Wilson to combing with Swift to take the doubles in four sets. John Lowde won two for the Sports with Lee and Fisher bagging one each.
Week Commencing 13 September 2010 DTH Redlands Joggers 6, Carlton Rovers 4 Newly promoted Carlton Rovers will have to adjust to life in Division Two once more after their narrow 6-4 loss to the Joggers of Redlands. Alan Wilson starred for the Rovers as he has done over many years and his excellent treble will not go un-noticed. Keith Swift added a solo win over Keith Bloomfield who returned to the arena after a gap year due to personal problems. Rising star Callum Shutt won two in reply with James Maher also recording a fine brace. Bloomfield chipped in with one following his log lay-off before Shutt brought Peter Cowburn off the bench to register two points for the winners. Manton Sports 1, Ryton Park Bees 9 The Bees were stung into action as their hopes of reaching Division One this season started well with this 9-1 win over the experienced Sports team. Only Joe Else dropped a game for the Bees as Brian Allen and Matty Lemon hit trebles before rounding off the match with a doubles win over Russell Kemp and Keith Smith. Kemp saved the Manton team's blushes with a 5-set win over Bees captain Else. Manton Tigers 4, Ryton Park Eagles 6 The Eagles swooped down and caught the Tigers on the hop with a 6-4 win to give the Ryton sides a double in the opening weeks fixtures. Joanne Drew and Division Two newcomer Thomas Moore did well to record two out of three, while league debutant Mike Cohen opened his account with a four set win over Steve Beeston prior to partnering Moore to a deciding doubles win over Paul Allison and Bill Bateman. Allison however was the star of the show after producing a vintage performance to register an excellent treble. Bateman finally added a solo win over Cohen to complete the score-line.
